Information Management is more than managing information…

Today Dr Kate Andrews and I had the pleasure of delivering an information management strategy for a client. During the course of this engagement, a fair bit of research was required – the information management strategy was not a ‘normal’ information management strategy but needed to blend IT Governance, Information Management, and Knowledge Management analytical frameworks into a cohesive whole that became a program of work.

Overall, the result seems to have been pretty positive. Our lcient will be the best judge of that though of course.

As a fair bit of research was required, it was interesting to come across a number of resources. A fascinating blog devoted to the topic of information management was Patrick Cormier’s blog ‘Information Management Now‘. This is a great example of a blog simply using Google’s blogger to host the website. A pretty simple thing, but Patrick has some great content there on the specific topic of information management.

Patrick Cormier's blog

My favourite post on this blog is a simple post on integrated information management.

As I say, this was one resource that was quite helpful in preparing an information management strategy for our client.

Data Quality Metrics and IT Governance

Before Easter I facilitated a workshop on Data Quality Metrics and IT Governance for Ark Group.  The handout and introduction to the topic is attached here:  Data Quality Metrics and IT Governance.

There is a companion workbook to this workshop.  The biggest comment I can make is that data quality requires an investment and it’s not something you can wake up and do the next morning – you have to walk before you can run (hence, the plethora of maturity and capability models such as those promoted by ISACA (COBIT).

Taming the information technology beast – IT governance made relevant

Last night’s presentation to the CPA Australia IT Discussion Group (Taming the information technology beast – IT governance made relevant) went well overall. However, it was an awful lot to absorb, so I attach the content here as a PDF for those that weren’t able to attend or may have missed something on the night.

I understand that, tentatively, this session will be repeated in May – but that’s up to John Halliday. Thanks to John, incidentally, for organising the IT discussion group.

At any rate, here is the presentation: Taming the IT Beast.

Governing the IT Beast

I note the chaser’s take on blogs and how they can peter out (warning: some strong language in the Chaser Comments and some articles – non-FYOSS): “Blog Abandoned After Five Entries”.

At any rate, tonight I am to present at the CPA Australia IT Discussion Group, so you can as usual expect to see the growth in thinking that has occurred on IT Governance since the last time a presentations similar to this one was done. We had to close the books on this one at 50, so it is being re-run in May as I understand it from John Halliday.
