Microsoft Hegemony

I like Microsoft.  Kinda.  Well, they’re the nicest dictator in the park.  Hmmm.  Ah vey.  Due to the tranquil hegemony enjoyed by Microsoft I have shelled out even more dollars (after buying Office 2007 (yuk interface), Visio 2007 (great!), Vista (not so great)) I have just bought a copy of MS Project 2007.

I can’t even get the packaging open.  It is about as unintuitive as you can get.  With the possible exception of the Office 2007 interface.

Reminds me of the “Microsoft iPod” packaging parody:

The Facebook Anthem

This is really old of course but it sums up a lot of people’s experience with Facebook (now must obsessively stalk facebook friends through status updates.  Bwa ha hahaha).

I’m writing an article on social networking and the pitfalls for young CPA’s – egad, there are so many ways.  Must not huddle in corner…

Billy Joel is probably rolling in his grave – except he’s not dead and hopefully gets some royalties sometime :).  Gotta love that song – the lyrics can be very adaptable.  Oh – and probably Not Safe for Work as it is loud and has some (bleeped) swearing.

Facebook has become the biggest and ‘baddest’ social networking site on the block – it’s mostly fun but there are FAR TOO MANY APPLICATIONS ALLOWED.  And you should see what happens with your data when you click on these things.  I’ve gotten rid of almost all of mine…

And… Facebook is for friends, LinkedIn is for real work :).

Applied Insight Pty Ltd and the Desktop

I was forlorn and decided that I needed to have a new desktop picture on my laptop to emphasise my new-found professional fervour. So limited as I am with artistic talent, no sense of taste and Visio, I whipped up a new desktop for my laptop.

Anyone so wishing can have this desktop for only $0.00 (GST-included) by downloading from here:

PigeonRank

I’m doing some research on Google searches and I was flabbergasted to learn of PigeonRank technology, particularly low-cost pigeon data clusters.  It’s a great breakthrough, something that should have been thought of years before.  If we could align the market with the needs of endangered species using similar approaches, the outcome would be great for company productivity and also helping us to preserve our diversity of species for generations to come.

All in all it sounds like a great idea.

Manatee biomass filtration devices anyone?

Demystifying Web 2.0

Being a presentation that was co-presented with Kate Andrews of Knowable (website not available yet) back in July for the Australian Institute of Management.  The presentation is a basic introduction to web 2.0 issues and concerns.  I recall that it was a lot of fun to create – again, giving me an excuse to research Second Life.

Although I have to say, the more I look at Second Life the less I feel the need to use it…

Anyway, Web 2.0 is not only Second Life and all sorts of issues (Folksonomies, Wikis, RSS, Weatherbonk, podcasting, etc), so the presentation was, I think, quite interesting:

For the sake of the children, there is no photo of the venue in which this presentation was given.
