Career Management issues in information systems

It’s that time of year when salaries are reviewed and people get all introspective about their careers.  This must have come up on the radar for ZDNet, as they have just started a series on the value of IT certifications for employees (and by implication, for employers).  The issue is the cost of undertaking, say, a Microsoft-Certified Systems Analyst qualification versus a University degree.

I have long been of the opinion that a university-based qualification is a good one to get, particularly since it can’t be taken off you and you don’t have to do a refresher course to keep it maintained.  Depending, of course, on what you want to do with your life :=).
